I received a bittersweet, but nice, note from an old friend the other day. Time has changed, things have changed, life has moved forward- sometimes the best we can ultimately hope for is to have been, to have made, some positive or beneficial impact, be it large or small, in the lives of those we cared or care about. Mine has been better as a result as well :)

So on a damp, gray Wednesday morning that I'm nursing a (self-inflicted) slight ailment: thank you as well.

Ya ever feel as if you've hurt or offended someone but you don't know what you might have done to have hurt or offended them?

Anyway... Geary's Autumn Ale is the beer du jour this evening (occasionally there are good things in Maine...) Some really autumnal weather lately- fall in New England is pretty good :)

Just catching up a lil bit... a status-quo past couple of weeks, busy, but ok, no 'plaints- work is what it is, some pretty good runs and workouts to keep things balanced... Slowly but surely moving further ahead ATS this fall; hey, it helps pay the bill$! (For this weekend, college wins were: West Va -10.5, Pitt +1.5, N. Carolina -6.5, Iowa -3.5, Purdue -5.5, Michigan St -7; losses were: Rutgers -6.5, NC State -7, Ohio St -3.5. NFL wins: KC +5, New Orleans -4; loss: Chicago -6, with SF, Indy, and Tennessee still to go.) A great win by the Patriots in OT today, too! The Mad Men season finale is tonight; it's over too soon! The teaser for tonight's episode: Opportunity arises for Don and Peggy. Hmmm- interesting...

Enjoying a Mayflower Autumn Wheat Ale on a- cool- Sunday evening....

Recently I've had three different people all comment on a variation of the theme that I, to quote one of them, "put a wall up" around me. (They are all from this part of my life; I've known them all for awhile now.) At first I thought that was pretty silly- after all, this blog is fairly revealing, as was the website I used to have, and I don't (or at least didn't) think I was especially tight-lipped regarding me. But the more I thought and think about it perhaps there is some ring of truth there. I suppose I do let- most- people get just so close and then no further, I do play things closer to the vest, keep some things, maybe quite a few things, more to myself. Some of it is my conservative nature (I'm not much of a self-promoter) but most of it is probably self-protective, trying to keep just enuf distance to lessen the possibility of disappointment, of hurt, of loss. (Likewise, I'm sure I've disappointed, and even hurt, some people over the years. It was never intentional.) I'm not sure if it's really all that unusual. Maybe it is something I need to work on. At any rate, it is what it is (but I do appreciate the interest.)

A pretty busy past couple of weeks. Not complainin', just explainin'. One project in particular was time-consuming. Often- too often- it seems as if time just disappears on me; I lift my head up and two weeks (or two months, or two years) are simply gone. What is it that I've occasionally mentioned about my poor time-management skills?

A so-so week AT$ this week- last week I got killed on my NFL games (my college games kept me- barely- ahead for the week.) This week was my first negative college week of the season, ugh (North Carolina, Indiana, and Notre Dame covered, Northwestern, Wisconsin, NC State, and Ga. Tech did not.) Another mixed NFL weekend as well, with the Bears-Giants game still to go (didn't touch the Pats this week.) Hafta step it up a bit...

A few news items...

A Conversation with P.J. O'Rourke (an interesting- and pretty funny!- guy)

I'll end with a music vid I posted on my Facebook wall recently; just a really sweet song I hadn't heard in years that brought back childhood memories (the particular memory is relevant only to me; someone long gone whom I seldom think of as often as I should... another wall I keep up perhaps.)
Enjoy!
