Digney Fignus - The Girl With The Curious Hand

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Well, I had my third round of treatment with Cetuximab earlier today. The one side effect that I was hoping might not occur but has is what looks like, but isn't, acne : (  The last thing I need at this point in my life is to look like an acne-prone teenager! And unfortunately my med people told me that I really can't treat it with anything, other than keeping my face moisturized (which I do anyway.) Good thing I'm adept with makeup...

A decent, but not great, week ATS last week, mostly due to some good NFL picks; I got hammered on college football. Games I'm looking at this week include:
College
@Wisconsin -16 UTEP
Syracuse +2 @Minnesota
Louisville -12.5 @FIU
@Va. Tech -19.5 Bowling Green
@Wake Forest -7.5 Army
Memphis +21.5 @Duke
NFL
NY Giants -1 @Carolina
@Chicago -8 St. Louis
SF -7 @Minnesota
Pittsburgh -4.5 Oakland
Happy wagering!

Alright, I have to rant on this individual yet again:
Killer wins sex-change surgery on state’s dime
Judge: Transsexual inmate should recoup legal fees
How I wish we could vote to remove idiot judges (that means YOU, Mark Wolf)... While it may alienate some within the T "community" Kosilek infuriates me to no end and I have zero sympathy for that individual's circumstances. Kosilek's pain is all of his own doing- the taxpayers of the Commonwealth owe you nothing. Fortunately for Kosilek (and unfortunately for justice) Massachusetts does not have capital punishment; if we did that miscreant would hopefully have been given the Needle of Peace and put down many years ago. And I've said before re. that individual; there are likely hundreds of transsexuals in Massachusetts who would like to receive hormone therapy, hair removal, and yes, SRS on the taxpayers' dime and, oh yeah, none of them likely murdered their wife. And then to have the gall of asking for, and an idiot judge approving, compensation for legal fees?! Talk about adding insult to injury! I wonder how the family, friends, and loved ones of Cheryl Kosilek- his wife whom he murdered- feel about that? And of course, sadly, Kosilek becomes the "face" of the T-community locally; when people think of T-folks their first thought will likely be of that murderer.
A shame we can't put Kosilek out of our misery...

A VERY good opening week win for my Patriots Sunday! Solid in all facets of the game; especially encouraging was the play of 2nd year RB Steven Ridley, and the play of rookie defenders DE Chandler Jones and LB Dont'a Hightower. A good start to the season!

Well, I received some not-so-great results on my most recent CT scan the end of last month. While there was- fortunately- no spread to any other organs the existing tumors on my liver had increased in size, and a few new ones appeared. Apparently the FOLFIRI treatment my oncologist started me on in July hasn't been effective. She started me on a new regimen, Cetuximab, the beginning of this month. Hopefully this will have some efficacy in knocking things back a little bit again. So far, as with all of my other treatments thus far, I've tolerated it very well, no side effects. The one thing with this is, while it is a shorter infusion time at the clinic, it is a weekly, as opposed to my previous bi-weekly, treatment, so I'll have to go in every Wednesday. I'm not complaining- it beats the alternative- but still, it is a time suck. And I do have excellent people working on my behalf; their efforts, compassion, and professionalism are all greatly appreciated. It is strange, and more-than-a-little maddening; I still feel perfectly normal, perfectly well, I have no pain nor feel ill whatsoever (tho' my stamina running and doing cardio seems to be a bit less, dammit- I have to step it up!) yet I, apparently, have very serious cancer. It does boggle my mind when I think about it... I did revisit my likely prognosis with my onc and she still seems to think, barring anything unforeseen, that I'm still looking at a couple of more years anyway. So there's that...

Onto other things... I met up with a T-friend of mine from California who was visiting Boston and Mass. last Friday; it was great to see her! We got together for a few drinks, was fun... A little shopping therapy last week; bought a red, black, and white wrap dress, hits right at the knee- cute! This month is looking pretty busy but next month should see me with a much better amount of free time- looking forward to seeing/meeting a few people, simply getting out and about a lil more than I have the past few weeks or so... A mixed week ATS last week, I need to step that up a bit... I occasionally read other folks' personal journals and blogs- no offense, and I know people, particularly trans people, do have and face issues. But I read some of these and all I can think is- lighten the f*ck up already! Occasionally mention some of the positive things (and we all have some positive things) going on in your worlds, share something beyond endless obsessing over your TGism. Sorry, just my .02.
